Reporting directly to the Payroll and Benefits Supervisor, the Payroll/Benefits Clerk will support day to day head office and pharmacy operations from a finance and accounting perspective. The incumbent is responsible for completing periodic payroll transactions and analysis in support of the business, providing insight directly on the business. The person will also offer support to the stores and communicate with various internal departments.

JOB DESCRIPTION: PAYROLL/BENEFITS CLERK

Objective: Under the supervision of the Payroll and Benefits Supervisor, this position will be an integral finance team member in the financial support of head office activities and the oversight of new and existing pharmacies, Tim Hortons and Starbucks. This position will  complete payroll duties as detailed below.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Tasks will include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Ensure strong/accurate payroll, accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations, efficiencies and profitability.
  • Assist with the company’s biweekly payroll ensuring timely and accurate pay runs.
  • Administration of all payroll files and contracts.
  • Support with benefits administration.
  • Administer new hire and termination setup and departure routines.
  • Enforcement of new payroll and benefit policies of the business.
  • Journaling of store financial transactions.
  • Assist all internal customers with any questions related to payroll and benefit issues.
  • Recommend changes or enhancements to ensure “best practice” policies and procedures to gain synergies across all lines of business units.
  • Support efforts of the management team through preparation, analysis and enhancement of recurring and ad-hoc payroll and benefit reporting.
  • Aid with the timely payment of all payroll and benefit remittances.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1 year + experience in Payroll.
  • Superior Excel skillset (V-look up, Pivot Tables) and word.
  • Experience with the Pay Works platform considered an asset.
  • Formal Canadian Payroll Association education is considered an asset.
