Neighbourly and Rubicon Pharmacies is looking for a full-time Accountant to join our team. This is a remote position, but the successful candidate should be based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, the Accountant will support day-to-day head office, pharmacy, clinic, Tim Hortons, and Starbucks operations from a finance and accounting perspective. The incumbent is responsible for completing periodic finance and accounting transactions and analyses in support of the business’s annual, quarterly, and periodic financial statements, providing insight directly into the business. The person will also offer support to the stores and communicate with various internal departments.

Applicants should possess superior communication and customer service skills, a strong work ethic, and blend well as part of a team. Education related to Accounting or Finance is considered an asset.

Objective: Under the supervision of the Assistant Controller, this position will be an integral finance team member in the financial and accounting support of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Tasks will include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Ensure a strong/accurate accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets.
  • Improve operations, efficiencies, and profitability.
  • Journaling of store financial transactions.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts (bank, AR, accrued liabilities, Capex) on a period-end and year-end basis.
  • Ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Respond to information requests from internal customers.
  • Assist the stores with any questions related to accounting issues.
  • Assist management with reviewing results to budget for stores.
  • Recommends changes or enhancements to ensure “best practice” policies and procedures to gain synergies across all lines of business units.
  • Support efforts of the management team through preparation and analysis of ad-hoc reporting as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 - 4 years experience in accounting.
  • Experience with full cycle accounting required.
  • Advanced Excel Skillset (V-look up, Pivot Tables).
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Formal education in Accounting or Finance is considered an asset.
  • Actively pursuing their CPA designation is considered an asset.
